My thanks to Evan from In Places Deep who has just become my 100th follower!

I'm absolutely delighted to have made it to triple figures - I know I've not been posting as much as perhaps I should have just recently but there is some stuff in the pipeline (more hooks, CoC material, the adventures of Junior Grognard) and when I have the time to get it done just right, you'll be seeing it here.

Meanwhile, to every single one of you, this is to say thanks for following!

Toad in the Hole at the Tuesday Tavern

Yes, it's Tuesday and that can only mean one thing - I crank open the doors of the Tavern and welcome four more guests, Aaron Nuttall, Christian, Steven Ewing and Frost to the chaotic but friendly fireside table that is Daddy G's.

Today, because I'm based in the largest county in England (well, the eastern bit of it) although I'm not actually a Yorkshireman by birth, I thought I'd rustle up a variation on the theme of Yorkshire Pudding - Toad in the Hole. As any English gastronome knows, it's all about the sausages.

And you will of course want something to wash it down with...

Helga! Holen Sie Bier für die neuen Gäste!

Prost!

Table for two at the Tuesday Tavern

For my two latest followers, Editor and Matt, a terrace table...

And back by popular request, here is Helga with another round of drinks...

I've a feeling that some of those beers might be warmer than others...

And to all inhabitants of Idaho (you know who you are), something that I know you're going to like...

Welcome one and all. It's truly amazing that only a month ago (or so) I was celebrating fifty followers and now there are seventy-one. I must be doing something right.

The Tuesday Tavern is Open!

The doors creak slowly on their hinges, the warmth of the fire touches the faces of the new visitors. It's time once again to welcome a new group of friends who have found their way through the wilderness.

Simon Acerton, Gabriel, Bard, Goblinkin, Trey, Amanda, Zanazaz,Dr Drucker and BlUsKrEEm, who is my 69th follower. I wonder who'll be number 70?

Sit ye down and enjoy all that Daddy G's place has to offer.

Here is Otto, my meat master, carving the loser of the Pig v Pig bout on Saturday Night Fight Club.

And here is Helga with your drinks.

And Simon, I don't want to worry you but on the list of followers, you're sitting next to Jim Raggi.

Bring back Chgowiz

If Chgowiz has ever helped you, given you inspiration or guidance, commented favourably on something you posted, or just made you feel "This guy is okay and I like having him around" then get over to Gothridge Manor and sign Tim's petition.

C'mon - don't let this nastiness deprive us of a truly inspirational blogger.

The Tuesday Tavern opens its doors again

But it's okay, because like Hilbert's Hotel, it's always got rooms available. It's going to need them because today we welcome four new guests, Ravenconspiracy (of the fine artwork), Robert, Jonathan Hicks and Padre, who is my 60th follower.

This is for you, my friends. Enjoy!

Tuesday, 9 March 2010

Meanwhile, at the Tuesday Tavern...

The door opens and the sound of lively conversation and clinking of glasses fills your ears. A fire roars lustily in the hearth and the aroma of freshly-prepared food and strong ale is everywhere.

The landlord glances up at your party arrives at the bar.

"Ah, dnaworks, Welleran, Satyre, Warduke, Rob Barrett and Yoo-Hoo Tom...good to see you, my friends. Sit down and enjoy the feast we have prepared..."

Suddenly, a mysterious stranger approaches you and asks if you are looking for adventure...

Fifty Followers!

It's a kind of landmark, I guess. Halfway to a hundred. I'd like to welcome MercerMachine, Brian Lujan and Chris from Save vs Stupid. Welcome, my friends, sit ye down and enjoy the following...

The beers are for everybody. Please enjoy responsibly and don't let Dungeonmum start dancing on the tables!

Tuck in!

Welcome, Jay and the Lord of Darkwolf Keep. I was just sitting down to a lovely plate of fish and chips from the legendary Hull chippie, Bob Carvers. Please do pull up a chair and join me. Mugs of tea, white bread and butter, mushy peas are optional.

Four and Six - Forty-six!

Evening all! Winter can't seem to make up its mind whether it's finished with us but the welcome is always warm at DG's.

I'd like to offer it to my latest chums, Ruarigh, Leopardi and Talysman the Ur-Beatle. Ruarigh lives within walking distance of me, and I'm very glad to have him on board the blog. Leopardi, a.k.a Dungeondad is the DM for Dungeonmum, who brightens up the blogosphere with her exceptionally well-written accounts of play - if she's half as much fun to DM for as she is to read, Leopardi must be a happy man.
Talysman's Nine and Thirty Kingdoms blog is, I reckon, required reading for anyone with a claim to be part of the OSR - insightful, informative and packed with Old School goodness. You have to read his Megadungeon series...no, really, you do.

Newcomers, are ye hungry?

Mr Gone, Jaerdaph, Tim Shorts at Gothridge Manor - your perspicacity and good taste shall be rewarded!

And ancientvaults - feast on this. I hear that other blogs don't offer such hearty fare.

Friends and Food (edit)

Okay, everybody - three new arrivals, Timrod,Cinderella Man and Dungeonmum. I'm just rummaging in the cupboard to see what we can serve up for them and....

Oh, and by the way...those aren't just normal Doritos. They're Mountain Dew flavoured Doritos. Two RPG essentials for the price of one!

New Elesalia post coming later today, but I wanted to make sure my new followers get the standard Daddy Grognard welcome

Four more friends

A snowy welcome to Will, Sniderman, Biopunk and Joe G Kushner. Glad that you found this little corner of the OSR and hope that you keep popping back to see what's going on.

Biopunk - anyone who follows Jack of Kent and Ben Goldacre is all right by me. Good luck with the degree.

Yeesh - it's snowing again. Doesn't this stuff ever stop?

Man, those friends keep coming!

I've got a severe case of the humbles here, guys. My follower total is now up to 33, with the arrival of Lord Gwydion (who I've been following for a while - nice blog) Hans from Sweden (that's halfway to Jim Raggi's house from here) and Geordie, who is an avid wargamer. Yeah - takes me back, that does. Napoleon's Campaigns in Miniature, Bruce Quarrie, Charles Grant, WRG rules and debates on the rhomphaia. I seem to remember the yellow/mustard colour rulebook with the circle of hand-drawn warrior heads on the cover. Had a very early fantasy supplement right at the back.

Oops, there I go again - letting my inner wargamer out to play.

Anyway, weird things happen when you google your own blog name. I found a very kind mention by Jon McNally who said some nice things about the Training Dungeon. Thanks, Jon. Obviously, I can't keep up with everything on the blogosphere, so if anyone has been giving me some OSR love and I've not said anything, thanks anyway.

Ah, I'm getting the humbles again. Who am I that these wonderfully cool people are interested in me?

Welcome, more followers

While I tinker with SNFC, I'd like to extend a warm (on this snowy night) welcome to Sean Wills and Eli Arndt, who have come stumbling in out of the wild winter weather. Put your feet up next to the fire, sup on the house ale and enjoy the offerings from this corner of Merrie England.

Ragnorakk and JD Jarvis, welcome

Two new stalwarts have joined my list of followers. I've been following JD's Aeons and Augauries for quite some time, and it's one that everyone should check out. Ragnorakk, I should imagine has tracked me down from TARGA, where I've been gauging the level of interest in my proposal for a local OSR convention. Welcome, friends - I have good feelings about 2010 and I'm glad to be a part of the OSR, whether my proposal takes off or not.

Note to Carl - I got another Japanese comment earlier. It came from someone called Ludivina Stokely and when I ran it through Babelfish, it came out as utter gibberish but I think, from what I could make out, that it might have been something a bit risque. Anyway, it's been rejected.

Welcome to Brutorz Bill

I'd like to take this opportunity to welcome my 25th follower, Brutorz Bill of Green Skeleton Gaming Guild fame. As Christmas itself is past, I can only offer the following treat for hungry newcomers:

It is (apparently) an Ultimate Leftover Turkey Sandwich. For the recipe, follow the link. Enjoy!

I hope to be able to visit more of your blogs in the following few days, and to post more as well. Hope everybody has had a good Christmas and you all got something Old School.

Just in time for Christmas

As it's unlikely that I'll be anywhere near my computer tomorrow (I'm cooking dinner and have family over), I'd like to wish everyone a Happy Christmas, including Koren N'Rhys, who has become my 24th follower. Welcome, and it's nice to see another of us introducing the great game to a new generation of gamers. Keep us posted on how it's going!

I was also intrigued to see your ideas for a cyberpunk game - as someone who, as a callow youth of 19, read Neuromancer when it first came out, and enjoyed Count Zero and Mona Lisa Overdrive as well as Burning Chrome, I will keep an eye on this project with interest. I tried something similar way back but had to customise Traveller to do it. Didn't really work all that well.

Welcome, Tenkar and Imredave

Very glad to see you - just in time for Christmas! That's what I love about the blogosphere - snow doesn't stop us here. Sit ye down by the fireside and put your feet up.

I hope that you find this blog interesting enough to pop by from time to time. I'm hoping to keep up the posts over the festive season, while recuperating from an 'interesting' 2009 and prepping for another year of gaming with Junior Grognard.

Oh yes, and I got a comment on one of my posts today that was entirely in Japanese. No idea what it meant. Has this happened to anyone else?

Vingt-et-un!

I don't know if it means that this blog has come of age, but I now have twenty-one followers. Welcome, Scholaboy - can't reciprocate, as you don't seem to have a blog of your own, but if you have anything that I can visit or link to, please let me know.

I hope that you like what what you read here, and as the Rusty Battle Axe can testify, I do respond to reader requests. Occasionally.
