Hi Chris
Sorry to have to contact you in this fashion but I've been trying to leave comments on your blogs and your Google public service ad is sitting directly over the word verification field, so I can't post comments. You might want to have a look at that as it may mean that no-one else can do so either.
Best regards
Daddy Grognard
(PS the 'Language of 4e' post is spot on; I can't believe that it's really that bad but I suppose it must be)
GURPS House Rule: You're A Natural

I've been using this rule, or close to it, since my 3rd edition GURPS

I ran into the same problem trying to comment on the very same post. Since I can't post it there, I'll post it here:
ReplyDelete"Y'know how in old-school gaming there were those things that we called "powergamers" and we avoided them like the plague because their number-crunching took all of the fun out of telling stories with your friends? (At least, that's how I remember it...) Well, you've just met the 4E version of that: the Min/Max Munchkin. (I think some folk used that term in OS gaming, too.)
What you are reading is someone discussing pure mechanics because they lack the creative ability to do anything more interesting than math. 4E does allow for fantastic stories, but that requires an excellent DM. And unfortunately for us that play 4E, all the excellent DMs seem to be playing OS games. :)
Seriously, though, check http://backscreenpass.blogspot.com/ . The fellow there is playing 4E, and the stories of the sessions he's run thus far are great. I can only hope to weave stories that fun when my group starts in about 3 weeks."
"I can't believe that it's really that bad but I suppose it must be"
ReplyDeleteCareful. This sounds dangerously elitist. Someone's feelings might get hurt.
I think that eabod has nailed this one, Greg. I looked at the sample to which Chris referred and it was indeed like a foreign language. Still, I suppose that even OS gamers slip into jargon pretty quickly given half a chance.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update, Daddy. I'll look into the template and see if I can fix it.
ReplyDeleteGlad to be of service!
ReplyDeleteJust checked and it still seems to be a problem. Now the bottom bar is getting in the way. I fear that the services of a technomancer are required.
ReplyDeleteOr you could go to settings and take off the word verification requirement. Of course this means the chances of spam...
